Business Card Design for the law firm Brown Van Horn, P.A. This project involved creating a clean, updated look that could be used for all employees at offices in three different cities. The firm’s classic logo was situated alongside updated, yet classic, fonts. Special attention to white space symmetry was given.

The Most Powerful Colors in the World

Clients often ask us for color recommendations during the branding process, especially based on which colors are going to make their brand more successful and marketable to their client base. The good folks over at Color Lovers recently decided to look at the colors in the brands from the top 100 sites in the world. After extensive data gathering, the results are in, and the world’s most successful web brands are mostly graced with the colors…

Blue and red, which makes one ponder over the driving force which causes brands to choose these colors, or a combination of colors where these colors are prevalent. According to Color Lovers, many of the color choices (especially in fast-growing startups) are not chosen for market-research-related reasons at all.

You might want to say that carefully organized branding research and market tests were done to choose the perfect colors to make you spend your money, but a lot of the brands that have grown to be global web powerhouses, started as small web startups… and while large corporate giants with branding departments spend quite a lot on market research, user testing, branding, etc. Lots of the sites listed above got started with brands created by the founders themselves with little to no research into the impact their color choice would have. I once asked Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook why he chose blue for his site design… “I’m color blind, it’s the only color I can see.” …and now 500 Million people around the world stare at a mostly blue website for hours each week.

However, this isn’t to say that color is not important when creating your brand. Actually, color choice is often paramount to relaying the meaning and aesthetic of your brand to your client base. At the end of the day, I always recommend that clients choose wisely and carefully based on a delicate combination of market research and their creative vision for the brand. You really can’t go wrong with this insightful combination coupled with the recommendations of an experienced designer.
